Debating Point Wells and porn

These are two separate issues but I figured if I put porn in the headline you might click on this item.

First, a neighborhood dispute on the future development of Point Wells in south Snohomish County is becoming a state matter.

Residents of Shoreline and Woodway fear their voices won’t be heard as Snohomish County lawmakers consider plans for turning the former industrial site into towers of condos. On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed House Bill 1265 which essentially insists the county sit down and work out their differences with the communities. The vote was 63-35.

The bill intends “in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration” to share the load of environmental review. It specifically calls for the county and cities to split the duties as lead agency of some of the reviews.

Opponents called this bill precedent-setting spot-zoning to get around rules of the state’s Growth Management Act. Sponsor Rep. Ruth Kagi, D-Lake Forest Park, called it “a very common sense solution” to the dispute.

There’s more to come today on this subject.

Now, about that porn debate.

It’s happening Saturday night at the EastLake Community Church in Bothell and features a Las Vegas pastor and a porn star.

Craig Gross, leader of the anti-porn XXXChurch, and Ron Jeremy, star of hundreds of adult films, will be facing off. They’ve done it enough times to set up a web site with booking instructions.

Typically the two meet on the grounds of a college campus. According to Gross, this is just the second time they’ve debated in a church.
