EVERETT — An Edmonds man held at the Snohomish County Jail died Sunday from an undetermined cause, the sheriff’s office reported.
Just after noon Saturday, Sean Hanchett, 32, was booked into the jail for investigation of fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor, court records show.
Around 4 p.m. the next day, jail officers were conducting routine checks with medical staff when they found Hanchett unresponsive in his single-occupant cell in the jail’s detox housing, a sheriff’s office spokesperson said in a press release Tuesday. Custody officers tried CPR, but it was unsuccessful.
On Tuesday, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office publicly identified Hanchett. The cause and manner of death remain pending.
The sheriff’s office will conduct a morbidity review, separate from the sheriff’s death investigation conducted by the major crimes unit. The review will be more of a clinical examination of Hanchett’s death.
