EDMONDS — Personal information about some parents, staff and students in the Edmonds School District may have been exposed in a data breach.
The district noticed “suspicious activity” Jan. 31 and investigated the scope of it, according to a news release published Friday. The investigation found someone could view and get “certain information” on the network between Jan. 16 and 31.
Potentially available data included date of birth, driver’s license number, financial account information, medical information, student identification number and student records.
District staff are working with outside forensic specialists to investigate the breach and assess what and whose information could have been affected. Those potentially affected would get a letter notifying them.
People who think their information was accessed from the data breach should review bank account statements and monitor credit reports for anything suspicious and unauthorized. A free credit report is available once a year at http://www.annualcreditreport.com/ or by calling 1-877-322-8228.
Anyone with questions can call please call the district office at 425-431-7000 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
