EVERETT — The Everett Area Chamber of Commerce took a step toward plugging a hole at its top level Friday, naming Carol Bradford as vice president.

She replaces Jean Hales, who left in August to start her own business. Renee Radcliff, Chamber president and a state representative, announced recently that she will leave her Chamber post on Dec. 1. Her replacement hasn’t been selected yet.

Bradford, who lives in Everett and will start her new job Monday, previously served as manager of the University of Phoenix Bellevue campus. She has a master’s degree in organizational development and a bachelor’s degree in criminology.

Radcliff cited Bradford’s experience in staff training and motivation and expertise in marketing as valuable strengths. Bradford will oversee the staff and the budget.

  • Friday prices: Gold sold for $264.65 a troy ounce, silver sold for $4.77 and platinum sold for $590.30.

  • Jobless rate at 30-year low: The nation’s unemployment rate remained at a 30-year-low of 3.9 percent in October, the government said Friday. The Labor Department report showed that even though the economy has slowed under the impact of six interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve, labor markets remain very healthy.

  • Priceline.com crashes: Shares of Priceline.com fell 31 percent Friday, a day after the name-your-own-price Internet company warned that its fourth-quarter revenue would drop because of declining demand for its airline ticket service. President Daniel Schulman said Priceline is still a viable business, and he attributed some of the pounding to the re-evaluation Wall Street has done of the online retailer sector.
