EVERETT — Police are searching for a suspect in connection with the stabbing of a 13-year-old male Thursday morning.
Around 7:45 a.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing near the 2500 block of Broadway in Everett.
Everett Fire transported the victim to Providence Regional Medical Center where the male teen was said to be in stable condition with stab wounds.
North Middle School and Everett High School, located near the stabbing, went into precautionary lockouts Thursday morning, according to the district. Both lockouts were lifted by 10:30 a.m.
Out of an abundance of caution, schools in the area planned for increased police presence during dismissal Thursday, district spokesperson Harmony Weinberg said in a statement.
Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said public safety is the city’s top priority.
“As a mom who walked her daughter to school along the exact same route every day, I’m horrified by this violent act,” said Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin in a press release.
Police are searching for a Black male in connection with the incident, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen at 8 a.m. wearing a gray sweatshirt and yellow beanie.
Police used a K-9 and drone to search for the suspect after the incident. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are still looking into what led up to the stabbing.
Police are asking community members to call the Everett Police Department TIP LINE at (425) 257-8450 or the Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS if they have any information about the whereabouts of the suspect.
“Our department is committed to locating the person responsible for this attack and we ask the community to please reach out if you know anything at all that will help us apprehend this individual,” said Everett Police Chief John DeRousse in the release.
