Everett School District high-schoolers performed well at the 2017 DECA State Career Development Conference, held March 2-4 in Bellevue. Over 3,000 students competed in a variety of events on topics related to business and marketing.
Cascade High School’s Xeindria Chandran was awarded the 2017 DECA Member of the Year.
“With almost 11,000 members in Washington DECA, this is truly an amazing honor,” advisor Jodi Galli said.
Evan Wold, a junior at Everett High School, earlier in the year was selected as the 2017-18 Washington DECA Area 2 state officer. He will represent all high school DECA programs as far south as the Shoreline School District.
Wold also was part of a winning school-based enterprise team with Nicole Yonker and Zoey Towle that earned a perfect score at state.
Everett High student George Canelakes placed first in personal finance.
Jackson High seniors Jack Ellis and John Henry earned first place for their community service project.
Cascade High students Rayna LaFave-Clark and Van Nguyen placed second in the state for a “Chapter Awards” event.
In all, 27 Everett teens now head to the DECA National Conference, to be held in April in Anaheim, Calif.
