EVERETT — A person died in a crash on southbound I-5 in Everett, causing three lanes to close for hours Thursday morning, police said.
Around 4:37 a.m., the person jumped from the Highway 526 overpass near Everett Mall, then was hit by multiple cars, said Washington State Patrol trooper Kelsey Harding. The person died. Authorities provided no identifying information.
The incident backed up southbound traffic to Marysville during rush hour Thursday. Traffic was getting by in the carpool lane. Cars could also use the off-ramp to Everett Mall Way and get back onto I-5 south.
After being closed for over four hours, the lanes reopened around 9:10 a.m.
