LYNNWOOD — A former massage therapist accused of inappropriately touching a client during a shiatsu massage in 2007 was given a chance to avoid any jail time.

Edward Young Bai Kim, 62, of Tacoma appeared Tuesday in Snohomish County Superior Court, where he was given a one-year suspended jail sentence. Kim will be on probation for two years.

Kim pleaded guilty in August to fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation, a gross misdemeanor. He avoided admitting any wrongdoing but acknowledged there was sufficient evidence to ensure his conviction.

The victim, 34, told police she went to the Newlife Fitness and Spa in Lynnwood for a massage. She complained that Kim touched her genital area.

She got off the table and left the business, according to court documents. She reported the incident to Lynnwood police.

The case also was investigated by the state Department of Health, which licenses massage therapists.
