Creekside tree planting in Marysville

Adopt A Stream Foundation is inviting volunteers to help plant 700 trees along Hayho Creek on Jan. 7. Hayho Creek flows into Quilceda Creek, a tributary to the Snohomish River.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is being sponsored by the state Department of Ecology. Participants are to meet across the street from the planting site, at 14524 40th Ave. NE, Marysville.

Poetry at Hibulb

Have poetry to share? It’s an open mic at the Hibulb Cultural Center’s first Thursday poetry night, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Bring your favorite personal poetry or your favorite poet’s work — or both.

The Tulalip Tribes museum is at 6410 23rd Ave. NE, Tulalip. Admission is free that day.

Learn ‘Immigration 101’

Bob Free, a volunteer attorney with Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, will give a presentation about the current state of immigration and law enforcement at 2 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave.

“Immigration 101” is a free training aimed at service providers — such as teachers, health care professionals, domestic violence advocates, social service providers and others — but is also open to the general public.

Swim for salmon

The nonprofit Sound Salmon Solutions has planned its third annual Polar Bear Plunge for Jan. 20 at Lundeen Park in Lake Stevens.

It’s set to start at 11 a.m. at 10020 Lundeen Park Way, Lake Stevens, WA 98258. A post-plunge warm-up with food and drink is planned at Sound Salmon Solutions’ office at 1901 B Vernon Rd. Lake Stevens.

For $25, people gain entry to the event and the warm-up party, plus a one-year membership to Sound Salmon Solutions and a tumbler.

The 20th annual Sky Valley Community Awards Celebration is set for 5 p.m. Feb. 10 at Sultan High School. Civic groups will get together to celebrate people and organizations who have made a difference. The free event starts with a slide show, potluck dinner and social time.
