Help for families

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Snohomish County, is accepting applications for two free classes developed by national experts for people with mental health diagnoses and their family members and caretakers.

Family to Family is a six-week class in Everett that began March 16. It introduces family members to the mental illness diagnoses, research on the brain, tools to help in mental health crises and support from peers. Peer to Peer is a 10-week class will began in Everett on March 27. It will provide people with mental health diagnoses with information about mental health diagnoses, medications, alternative tools, and planning to move toward recovery. Recycle home goods

Dispose of appliances, furniture and other unwanted items at an event hosted by the city of Snohomish, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 6, at the city’s public works yard, 1801 First St.

The event is open only to Snohomish residents and water customers — bring a driver’s license or utility bill. Accepted items can be found on the city’s website.

Employment Network offers job help

The Employment Network meets from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays at the North Creek Presbyterian Church, 621 164th St. SE., Mill Creek. Free help with job searches, resume writing and interviewing.

Head injury support groups

Support groups for brain-incident survivors and their caregivers meet regularly across Snohomish County.

An Edmonds group meets 6:30-8:30 p.m. first Tuesdays on the second floor of Swedish Edmonds Medical Center, 21601 76th Ave. W. Contact: Lou Nash, 425-776-7264 or lou_nash@frontier.com.

Vision loss support group

The VIPs (visually impaired persons), a group for the blind and visually impaired, meets 10 a.m. third Mondays at the Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett, 3025 Lombard Ave.

Council of the Blind

The Snohomish County Council of the Blind meets noon to 3 p.m. second Saturdays at Denny’s, 132 128th St. SW, Everett. Call to verify.

The nonprofit chapter of the Washington Council of the Blind serves the visually impaired, legally blind and totally blind with activities and advocacy.
