Lynnwood Costco closer

The new Costco planned for Lynnwood near the Alderwood mall is expected to be open by September, according to the Lynnwood City Council. The company picked up the building permit earlier this week for the warehouse store to be built on the former Lynnwood High School campus.

State of the city: Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling will present his state of the city address at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 12 at the Edmonds Theater, 415 Main St. Earling will discuss the successes and challenges of the past year, projects and goals for the coming year, and long-term strategies for 2015 and beyond.

Free smoke alarms: Red Cross volunteers will be out in the Silver Lake area Saturday and Sunday to distribute free smoke alarms.

More volunteers are needed, and lunch will be provided.

Distribution starts at 8:30 a.m. both days.
