Holiday tours at Blackman House
Holiday tours of the Blackman House Museum, 118 Ave. B, Snohomish, continue Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting.
The half-hour tours, beginning on the hour between 1 and 4 p.m., tell the story of early Snohomish and how the Blackman family influenced its history.
Hyrcanus and Ella Blackman built the home in 1878 and lived there until their deaths, after which their daughter, Eunice, lived in the house with her husband, Dr. Ford.
In the early 1960s, Eunice’s daughter worried about her mother living alone in Snohomish. She brought her down to California for a visit, which turned into a permanent stay until her death in 1974.
“Sadly, Eunice never returned to the Blackman/Ford house,” said Warner Blake, historian and president of the Snohomish Historical Society. “She sold the home to the newly formed Historical Society in July 1970 and they opened their doors as the Blackman House Museum in time for a Holiday Tea, December 1970.”
The suggested donation for the tours is $5.
