FYI: Deanna Dawson leaving Edmonds

Edmonds City Councilwoman Deanna Dawson is stepping down from office and moving to Washington, D.C., for a new job.

Dawson will also resign as an adviser to Executive Aaron Reardon.

She announced the departures, effective Dec. 31, from the council and the county jobs in an e-mail to county workers Wednesday.

Dawson said her new job will be the director of the federal courts program for Justice at Stake, a nonprofit organization devoted to keeping America’s courts fair, impartial and independent.

Closures today for Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving. Here are some closures today.

Government: Federal, state and local offices are closed.

Schools: Closed today and Friday.

Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses and banks are closed. Some retail stores are open, but malls are closed.

Transportation: Everett Transit, Community Transit and Dial-a-Ride are on Sunday schedules. On Friday, there is no ­Boeing-Everett service and some commuter trips are canceled. The Point Defiance-Tahlequah, Seattle-Bainbridge, Edmonds-Kingston and Mukilteo-Clinton ferry routes are on holiday schedules. There is no Seattle-Vashon passenger ferry. All other routes will operate on a regular Thursday schedule.

The Herald: Classified and reception are closed. Customer service (delivery) will be available between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m. today at 425-339-3200.

Soroptimist awards will honor women

Soroptimist International of Marysville seeks applicants or nominations for several awards including the Women’s Opportunity Award, the Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women Award and The Violet Richardson Award.
