Housing Hope has honored three people who demonstrated outstanding community service in support of the organization’s mission to provide housing and related services to homeless and low-income residents of Snohomish County and Camano Island.

The awards were presented during the group’s recent annual Stone Soup fundraiser.

The Pioneer Award, recognizing long-term commitment to Housing Hope, was presented to Steve Saunders. Saunders has provided philanthropic support for Housing Hope in its major fundraising drives over the past decade.

The Housing Hero Award, for dedicated effort at a level that sets an example for the rest of the community, was given to Dave Koenig. He has served as the head of the city of Everett housing program since the 1980s and has championed housing and related services for low-income households.

The volunteer of the year award was given to Mary Carter. Last year, she trained herself on state Housing Trust Fund application requirements and took the lead in packaging major proposals for Housing Hope’s two Sultan development projects, both of which were subsequently funded.
