MUKILTEO — A train struck and killed a pedestrian on the railroad tracks near the Port of Everett’s Mount Baker Terminal on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Around 1:45 p.m., officers responded to the crash at 1500 First Street, Mukilteo officer Nathan Fabia said Thursday.

Police shut down Mukilteo Lane from Park Lane to West Mukilteo Boulevard. Roads reopened by 4:30 p.m.

Rail traffic was also halted in the immediate aftermath, according to emergency radio traffic.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the deceased.

BNSF owns and operates the tracks. The railway company was investigating the cause of the crash, spokesperson Kendall Sloan said Thursday.

Earlier this month, an Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian at Harborview Park, about 1½ miles east of Thursday’s incident.
