MILL CREEK — The Herald Fund board of directors has awarded Jackson High School senior Ann Duan with a $1,500 scholarship.
Duan, 17, said her interest in journalism arose when she wrote a class assignment about the drawbacks of social media.
“I began to realize that I could represent a cause greater than myself and make a difference in the world,” she wrote in her scholarship essay.
Since 2008, former and current employees of The Daily Herald have helped Snohomish and Island county students pursue journalism through The Herald Fund, administered by the Snohomish County Community Foundation.
Duan, of Mill Creek, plans to study journalism at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in the fall.
