Edmonds City Councilwoman Kristiana Johnson, Lynnwood Councilman Christopher Boyer, Mountlake Terrace Councilman Jerry Smith and Brier Councilman Martin Krienke will head south Snohomish County city councils for 2016.
The Edmonds Council in January elected Johnson to a one-year term as Council president. Johnson joined the council by appointment in 2012 before winning a full four-year term in 2013.
The Lynnwood Council elected Boyer as council president in January. Boyer also became a member of the council by appointment in 2012 and won election in 2013.
The Mountlake Terrace Council, also in January, re-elected Smith to the position of mayor. Smith is in his fourth four-year term on the council and his seventh two-year term as mayor.
Mountlake Terrace has a council-manager form of government, in which the seven elected part-time city council members appoint a full-time professional city manager as the city’s chief executive officer. The council elects one of its members to have the title of mayor while presiding over council meetings and carrying out ceremonial duties.
The Mountlake Terrace Council also has elected Councilman Rick Ryan as mayor pro-tem.
Edmonds, Lynnwood and Brier have mayor-council governments, in which citizens elect the mayor and seven council members. The mayor, the city’s chief executive, also presides over council meetings. The council elects a council president, called mayor pro-tem in Brier, to set council agendas and to preside over meetings in the mayor’s absence.
The Brier council has elected Krienke as mayor pro-tem for 2016. Krienke is in his third four-year term on the Brier council.
