EVERETT — Kaiser Permanente is set to open its newly expanded Everett facility on June 3.
Kaiser Permanente Everett Medical Center, located on Maple Street near I-5, will be more than three times its current size and offer a wider range of services.
In 2017, Kaiser Permanente invested $1 billion to support new, upgraded facilities throughout Washington. The organization announced its plans for the Everett facility in 2019, totaling 165,000 square feet. In 2020, Kaiser Permanente purchased three nearby properties for the expansion.
The new facility will offer “a broader range of specialty care, state-of-the-art technology such as advanced imaging and pharmacy services all under one roof,” Kaiser Permanente spokesperson Jessica Knapp wrote in a statement Friday. The organization hopes the expansion will better serve the community, she added.
As a result of the expansion, Kaiser Permanente Lynnwood Medical Center will move several of its services to Everett — dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, podiatry and rheumatology. Starting June 3, Lynnwood patients receiving these services will have to travel to Everett or find a new care provider.
Larry Miner has received services at through Kaiser Permanente for 35 years. Currently, he goes to the Kaiser Permanente’s Lynnwood location for dermatology and podiatry, as well as primary care. Primary care services will still be available at the Lynnwood location after the expansion goes into effect.
This week, Miner is set to close on a condo in Lynnwood just six blocks from the clinic. The proximity to Lynnwood Medical Center was important to him, he said, because he could walk to his appointments. He said he plans to look for a new provider.
“I’ll be 77 in a couple of months, and I’m driving less and less,” Miner said. “I don’t have that skill set anymore.”
Earlier this month, Kaiser Permanente notified Lynnwood Medical Center patients of the upcoming changes to services. The organization sent letters to patients who have been seen by a specialty clinician in the past year or have an upcoming specialty appointment.
Kaiser Permanente will automatically move Lynnwood specialty care appointments scheduled on or after June 3 to the Everett location, according to the patient notification letter.
Services will not change at other Kaiser Permantente locations in the area, Knapp said.
