KIRKLAND – A high-speed police chase that played out live on KIRO-7 Eyewitness News ended with the arrest of the driver Tuesday afternoon.

The chase lasted more than 30 minutes before the driver bailed out of a stolen car and surrendered to police, who surrounded him in Kirkland.

It began when Bellevue police were chasing a stolen 1997 silver Honda Accord with disabled license plates late Tuesday afternoon.

With KIRO’s Chopper 7 orbiting overhead, police lost sight of the fleeing car. But Chopper 7 pilot Clark Stahl spotted the driver and followed him. Later, Stahl saw the man break into another car, a blue Subaru SVX, apparently hot-wire it, and take off again.

KIRO alerted police to the driver’s location, and the chase was on again, with police following the speeding blue Subaru through the streets of Kirkland.

After forcing his way through northbound I-405 traffic, the driver rammed a fence at a Bothell golf course and drove onto the greens before making it back to surface streets. Eventually, he was cornered and gave himself up, KIRO reported.
