GOLD BAR — A man in his 60s died after he was trapped in his burning home Monday night.
A call came in shortly before 9 p.m. The caller said there was an explosion and flames at a house along May Creek Road, said Chief Eric Andrews with Fire District 26. When crews arrived at the house, the fire had engulfed the home.
It was a windy night, Andrews said, which fed the fire.
Firefighters were familiar with the man, Andrews said. They had been to his house before to provide medical care.
It was impossible to do an immediate rescue due to the flames, he said.
The area along May Creek Road does not have fire hydrants, Andrews said. They had to haul in trucks carrying water.
Andrews said the house was a total loss. Only the frame was left standing.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
