INDEX — A man went missing after falling into Sunset Falls on Friday night, according to authorities.
Around 9:23 p.m., a woman called to report her husband had accidentally fallen over the falls, Sky Valley Fire Chief Eric Andrews said. Responders were unable to find the man after a search involving drones and people searching on the Skykomish River banks.
Searchers found a shoe and a pair of sweatpants Friday night that matched what the missing man was wearing, Andrews said.
The search was called off around midnight and resumed Saturday morning. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue teams took over the search from the fire department, Andrews said.
Andrews said people have gotten trapped in the pool below the falls in the past.
The man was still missing after 3 p.m. Saturday, when the search was called off for the day, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office noted rivers are especially dangerous right now because of melting snowpack.
