SPOKANE — A man who died after he was subdued at a Spokane health club by deputies with a stun gun has been identified.
The Spokane County medical examiner identified the man Monday as 34-year-old William Berger. The medical examiner’s office said additional investigation is needed to determine the cause and manner of death.
Berger died Friday.
Witnesses have said the man was lifting weights Thursday at Oz Fitness when he started throwing weights and screaming, punched a hole in a wall and knocked down a paper towel dispenser.
Authorities said he ran out of the gym into traffic and was confronted by deputies who shot him twice with a stun gun. The man’s heart stopped, but he was revived and taken to a hospital.
The State Patrol is investigating.
