MUKILTEO — The principal of Mariner High School in the Mukilteo School District is a finalist for national principal of the year.
Brent Kline won the state award for his contribution to student achievement at his diverse high school.
Students at Mariner High School have nearly doubled their success at passing state writing, reading and math tests during the past decade.
District Superintendent Marci Larsen says Kline works closely with the teachers in his school and he spends time each day in classrooms.
Kline and the other five finalists for the MetLife-sponsored award from the National Association of Secondary School Principals will each receive a $1,500 grant.
The two national award winners—one high school and one middle level—will receive additional grants of $3,500 to improve learning at the school.
