MARYSVILLE — Police arrested a 51-year-old Everett man after a child’s mother and father thwarted his attempt to kidnap their child Wednesday in Marysville, authorities said.
Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, a man opened the rear door of an occupied parked car in the 1500 block of 9th Street, while claiming the child inside was his. The father, who had just exited the vehicle, slammed the door and pushed the suspect away from his car.
The mother, who was still in the car, locked the vehicle doors. The suspect tried again to get into the locked car, still claiming the child was his, according to police. The father shoved the suspect into the road, at which time the suspect got into his own car and fled.
Officers found the suspect in his car about a half mile north of where the incident took place.
The parents and an independent witness identified the man.
The suspect was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempted second-degree kidnapping. The child was frightened but otherwise unharmed.
