COLEMAN, Fla. — A fight broke out in the recreation yard at a federal prison northwest of Orlando on Sunday afternoon, and eight inmates have been hospitalized, including one with a gunshot wound, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons said. The fight was in the yard of a high-security unit at Coleman Federal Correctional Complex. The spokeswoman said she had no further details about the fighting and how it began.

California: Gas up 7 cents

The average national price of gasoline increased 7.6 cents in the past two weeks, according to a national survey released Sunday in Camarillo by oil industry analyst Trilby Lundberg. The average price of regular gasoline Friday was $1.85 a gallon. Of cities surveyed, the nation’s lowest price was $1.44 in Billings, Mont. The highest price was $2.37 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Wisconsin: Monster truck accident kills 1

A promoter for the Motor Sports Monster Truck &Thrill Show has died from injuries after an accident Saturday at the Dane County Coliseum, just over a week after a 6-year-old boy was killed in a monster truck event in Tacoma. A witness told the Wisconsin State Journal that 41-year-old George Eisenhart Jr. of Chardon, Ohio, walked in front of one of the monster trucks just as it was about to pass by.

Pennsylvania: More suspicious fires

The latest in a string of suspicious fires in Coatesville tore through a block of row houses Saturday, damaging 15 homes, leaving several dozen people homeless and prompting city officials to declare a state of emergency. About 15 arsons have been reported in the last three weeks. Police said the blazes may be part of a gang initiation, but there was no clear information who was committing the crimes or why.

Vietnam: 40 die as ferry sinks

A small ferry overloaded with Tet holiday shoppers from Quang Hai village sank in the Gianh river on Sunday, killing at least 40 people. At least 36 passengers survived. An initial investigation showed the wooden boat was overloaded with nearly 80 people, though it was designed to carry only 12.
