EVERETT — An elderly Everett-area woman who was found Dec. 1 with a broken hip on the floor of a filthy home has died at a local hospital, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office said Tuesday.
Irene M. Strandt, 81, died Dec. 17. Determinations on the cause and manner of her death are pending further investigation, the office said.
The woman’s son, Kenneth William Strandt, 53, is charged with first-degree criminal mistreatment.
He allegedly left his mother on the floor for five days without seeking help. At the time of his arrest, doctors said there were concerns the woman would not survive. One emergency room physician told investigators that in 15 years of practice he’d “never seen anything as bad as this,” according to court papers.
Kenneth Strandt remained locked up Tuesday at the county jail in Everett, his bail previously set at $150,000.
