Arlington: Council meeting rescheduled

The Arlington City Council plans to discuss rules regarding gambling businesses, the University of Washington’s planned branch campus in Snohomish County and a proposal for a new library at a workshop at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Council Chambers, 110 E. Third St.

The council was scheduled to discuss these and other issues at a workshop Monday, but the meeting was canceled because not enough council members were available for a quorum, according to Assistant City Administrator Kristin Banfield.

Camano Island: Go native in the garden

A presentation on the benefits of native trees and shrubs and the beauty and seasonal interest they can add to the landscape is planned for 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive.

Barb Smith, a master gardener and Washington Native Plant Society steward, plans to identify desirable native plants and show ways to incorporate them in garden design.

Marysville: How to deal with bullies

A class offered through the Marysville parks department is aimed at helping children overcome bullying without fighting.

Children and parents can learn to recognize, avoid and resolve conflicts before they become physical.

The class is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 22 at Kung Fu 4 Kids Academy, 8213-A State Ave.

The class, taught by Carl Doup, is for youths ages 8 and up. The fee is $10. For more information or to register, call 360-363-8400.

A second session is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Nov. 17.

Stanwood: Quilters sew for soldiers

The Stanwood Camano Hero Quilters invites quilters to join them in sewing quilts for injured soldiers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Stanwood Senior Center.

The center is at 7430 276th St. NW.
