EVERETT — A mail truck driver had a green light when he struck a woman Tuesday in downtown Everett, according to Everett police.
It was dark and raining around 5:45 p.m. when the woman tried to walk north through the intersection of Colby and Pacific avenues, officer Aaron Snell said. The light changed while she was crossing.
A westbound U.S. Postal Service truck struck her in the crosswalk. The driver reported he did not see the woman. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
She was identified Wednesday evening as Victoria Taggart, 76, of Everett.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors. The driver was not arrested, Snell said.
Taggart died of blunt force injuries, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The downtown Everett post office is on Hoyt Avenue, about 500 feet west of the crash scene.
Officers noted a walker was in the street. It appeared to belong to the woman.
