ARLINGTON — A man accused of killing his mother near Arlington died Sunday after a police pursuit on Highway 9, investigators said.
Around 2:30 p.m., the man, 19, and his mother, 42, were arguing in the 1900 block of 200th Street NE, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. The son shot his mother multiple times, police said.
When deputies arrived, they performed lifesaving measures on the mother, but she died at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
About 15 minutes after the shooting, sheriff’s deputies initiated a pursuit of the man on Highway 9, according to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, a cadre of detectives tasked with investigating police use of force. Deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the man’s car, SMART said. He was thrown from the car and died at the scene.
Highway 9 was closed for hours at the 7500 block as authorities investigated.
A PIT maneuver is a tactic in which pursuing officers crash into the back corner of the car they’re pursuing to force them to stop.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office was expected to identify the deceased, as well as determine the cause and manner of death.
