SEATTLE — Port of Seattle and other maritime leaders say they’re worried about the potential impacts a new proposed arena could have on the industry.

The Seattle Times reported that port commissioners fear traffic congestion from the proposed venue south of downtown will slow freight mobility and force shipping companies to turn to other ports.

Seattle, King County and private investor Chris Hansen announced a memorandum of understanding Wednesday spelling out the financial responsibilities for a proposed arena that could bring the NBA back to Seattle. The arena would be built in the neighborhood including Safeco Field and CenturyLink Field.

The county and city councils will be asked to review the agreement in coming weeks.
