Seattle’s natural medicine university hires new president

SEATTLE — Bastyr University, Seattle’s natural medicine school, has hired a new president.

Charles “Mac” Powell will be the fourth president in the university’s history.

Powell is currently president of John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hills, California. He will take over at Bastyr from Daniel K. Church, who has been president at the Kenmore, Washington, college for the past decade.

Founded in 1978, Bastyr offers more than 20 degrees and certificates in fields including naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, midwifery and nutrition. The university opened a second campus in San Diego in 2012.
