Parker Williams, president of the Cascade Club, reported that as a follow-up to a recent stag party celebrating the 50th anniversary of the club, a party would be held for members and their wives.
Marysville Order of Rainbow was holding public installation at the Masonic Temple. Janet Schneider would be installed as worthy adviser, with the other line officers being worthy associate adviser, Genie Livingston; charity, Barbara Powell; hope, Marge Kunkle; and faith, Judy Westerlund.
Residents west of Monroe fought the battle of Lord’s Hill in an effort to take over 1,000 acres scheduled for clear-cut logging. They wanted to turn it into a regional park. James Taylor, spokesman for the Lord’s Hill Homeowners’ Association, said they wanted something left in 1990 to use for a park. Bob Heirman and Art Sprenkle added similar comments.
Mark Anderson of Arlington captured the Northwest District AA javelin crown with a toss of 180 feet, 3 inches in the district preliminaries. Stanwood’s Karl Hedren won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 11 inches.
