Serenade for the ‘08 legislative session

Published 11:12 pm Saturday, December 22, 2007

Another holiday season means another song contemplating the potential fonts of perspiration for legislators in 2008.

With my apologies to travelers aboard the “Yellow Submarine”:

In this town with the big dome,

Is where the guv’ner freely roams.

Lawmakers will soon return,

And more laws they’ll surely churn.

Democrats they’re in control,

For awhile now what a roll,

All the cash is theirs to spend,

The way they act there is no end.

We all live in their state of Washington,

State of Washington, state of Washington,

No one escapes their state of Washington,

State of Washington, state of Washington.

There are signs the GOP,

Is out to help you and me.

But for sure there is a hex:

Mr. Curtis and all that sex.

They taught Dems quite a lesson,

On taxes in special session.

Fred Jarrett then did a dance,

Switching parties, changing pants.

It’s getting worse for the minority,

The minority, the minority,

They are way behind the majority,

The majority, the majority.

Issues are starting to brew,

Leaves no time for folks to stew.

Got those sex offenders back,

GPS will find and track.

Ferries are now retired,

Are any workers getting fired?

Choosing a site for U-Dub,

Should occur lest locals flub.

These are a few of the matters ahead,

The matters ahead, the matters ahead,

You can be sure though bills will wind up dead,

Bills will wind up dead, bills will wind up dead.

Will the Dems stay on budget?

Will we see them try to fudge it?

If they do they’ll get a shove,

From the man running for guv.

All the pols are getting set,

Sixty long days you can bet,

When it ends there may be fears,

Of lasting pain for many years.

Look for lots of fights in the next session,

In the next session, in the next session,

We’ll be watching them in the next session,

In the next session, in the next session.
