MARYSVILLE — Police on Tuesday arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting an acquaintance’s girlfriend.

The man was staying with the couple in the 10300 block of 53rd Avenue NE when the attack occurred about 8:30 a.m., Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.

The boyfriend had left a room and returned to find the man attacking the woman, Hover said. The boyfriend hit the suspect with a wooden stick and the suspect ran away.

Police swarmed the area to try to catch the man. Marysville police arrested him about 9 a.m. in the Fred Meyer parking lot. The man was expected to be jailed for investigation of second-degree rape, Hover said.

Some Marysville schools were placed in lockdown for a short time as police looked for the suspect.
