EVERETT — A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday morning after a shooting at an Everett apartment building, according to police.

A boyfriend and girlfriend were visiting a friend’s apartment in the 10700 block of Evergreen Way on Monday night, Everett officer Kerby Duncan said. Around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, the boyfriend and the tenant got into an argument, ending with the tenant shooting the man in the head with a semiautomatic handgun, a witness told police.

When officers arrived, the woman came out of the unit and reportedly said someone inside had been shot.

Officers entered the apartment. They found the alleged gunman holding a man who was on the ground, Duncan said. Police detained the tenant, but he had been not booked into jail Tuesday. The other man was transported to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett in critical condition. Both the tenant and the wounded man are in their 30s.

Detectives were on scene Tuesday morning and were seeking a search warrant for the apartment, Duncan said. They were investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Police recovered a gun at the scene.

There were no other suspects, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call the Everett Police Department’s tipline at 425-257-8450.
