EVERETT — Snohomish Public Utility District customers have another chance to apply for power-saving appliance upgrades.
The utility company is reopening its Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates program, which distributes energy-efficient washers, dryers, stoves and heat pump water heaters to qualifying customers. Customers can find out if they’re eligible for the program through an online survey found on the PUD website.
In May the state’s Department of Commerce awarded $40 million in grants to local electrification projects across Washington.
Snohomish PUD received $5.3 million of Climate Commitment Act dollars for its program, the most in the state according to PUD staff.
Now, with roughly half of the fund remaining, the utility is encouraging more customers to take advantage of the opportunity.
“We are excited to make this opportunity available to more customers and encourage anyone who thinks that they may be eligible to fill out the survey as quickly as possible as funding is limited,” Snohomish PUD Program Manager Allison Grinczel wrote in an email. “We’ve served over 200 households with new washers and dryers and heat pump water heaters so far and are looking forward to serving several hundred more before the June deadline.”
Customers can find their account number needed to complete the survey on their utility bill or through the PUD’s online portal.
If approved, customers will receive notification from PUD within eight weeks explaining how to claim new appliances, according to a newsletter sent out on Jan. 10.
Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the Snohomish PUD is distributing heat pumps to qualifying customers.
