STARTUP — The 39-year-old man killed Saturday in a shooting in Startup has been identified.
On Saturday, Roy Ashmore went to a friend’s home in the 36700 block of U.S. 2. He was there to protect her as she worked on getting a no-contact order against her grandson, Tristan Trinh, according to police.
But when Ashmore arrived, Trinh, 23, wouldn’t let him in the home according to court documents. A fight ensued that ended with Trinh allegedly shooting Ashmore, of Sultan, multiple times in front of the victim’s young son.
Trinh was arrested for investigation of second-degree murder. On Wednesday, he remained in the Snohomish County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
An online fundraiser for funeral expenses describes Ashmore as a “son, brother, father and a hero.”
