The state Department of Health has approved with conditions a request by Seattle’s Swedish Health Services to take over management of Stevens Hospital in Edmonds.
The change is scheduled to occur Sept. 1.
Although the hospital will soon get a new sign outside its building on 76th Ave. W. with a new name — Swedish/Edmonds — few immediate changes are planned.
Current hospital staff will remain in place. Swedish officials said Tuesday that anyone arriving in the emergency room or at the hospital on the day the change takes place will see the hospital running normally.
The management agreement ends Stevens Hospital’s 46-year history as a public hospital.
Swedish will lease the hospital, making payments of $600,000 a month to the hospital district, the legal entity to which property taxes will continue being paid.
