CAMANO ISLAND – Island County sheriff’s officials said today they believe a teenage fugitive is in hiding or possibly has left Camano Island.
Deputies have noticed a decrease in reported burglaries on south Camano Island, crimes that they believe have been the calling card of Colton Harris-Moore, 17, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said today.
“He may be in hiding or perhaps temporarily left the island,” Brown said. “We must, however, not let our guard down.”
Harris-Moore, 17, escaped from a Renton group home April 30 while serving a three-year sentence for residential burglary. The 6-foot-5-inch teen was spotted on Camano Island during a July 17 police chase.
Brown said his office continues to aggressively pursue leads in the case. He’s asking people who live on the island to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
Anyone who spots Harris-Moore, described as 6 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, is asked to call 911.
Information also can be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
