INDEX — U.S. 2 has reopened again east of Index, authorities announced Thursday night.
The highway had been blocked off earlier this week due to the further spread of the Bolt Creek wildfire.
On Friday, the Bolt Creek wildfire burned 12,070 acres of wilderness north of Skykomish and and was 28% contained, fire officials said.
Pockets of heat continued to burn themselves out near U.S. 2, said Kevin Griffee, a spokesperson for the wildfire incident management team.
“Last night, the fire just continued to do what we want it to do, which is a consumptive strategy, Griffee said Friday. “We’ve got some control line and containment line all along U.S. 2.”
The fire was expected to burn north into the wilderness through the weekend.
