I agree with a recent letter “Adopt a renter tax credit in Congress for affordable housing” in the assertion that a renter tax credit is needed to help low-income Americans. While Sen. Maria Cantwell, Rep. Suzan DelBene, and their colleagues are debating changes to taxes in 2025, they should also revive talks about expansions to the Child Tax Credit.
The CTC is a remarkably successful program that has bi-partisan support in Congress. Research shows that most folks who receive money from the CTC spend it on much-needed financial boost to help with groceries, childcare, and rent. So, the CTC also helps keep families housed to give children stability they need.
