Assisted suicide isn’t heroic or newsworthy

Regarding a recent story (“In the face of death, the party of a lifetime,” The Herald, Aug. 30), suicide is not heroic. It is not newsworthy. It is the ultimate act of cowardice. As one of the millions of people who have and are living with cancer, mine was first diagnosed in August, 2001, I can tell you that day-to day living takes far more courage than Robert Fuller’s solution.
The Catholic Church teaches, “Catechism of the Catholic Church.” paragraph 2281, “Suicide contradicts the natural inclination of he human being to preserve and perpetuate his life. It is gravely contrary to the just love of self.” This certainly does not reconcile with the acceptability, let alone the heroics of suicide!
The use of the picture of the kids and priest praying for Mr. Fuller is at best reprehensible. I assure you they are not praying for the success of his “party of a lifetime.”
