Fox News has misled its viewers about Jan. 6 insurrection

Numerous surveys have shown that a majority of Republicans still believe that Joe Biden did not win the 2020 presidential election. This is sad, but not surprising. In the current media environment, people get to choose their primary news sources from a multitude of offerings. Many conservative-leaning news outlets give their viewers/listeners the news they want to hear.

I watched the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2020. I repeatedly switched between ABC News and Fox News. While ABC described it as a mob attacking the Capital building, Fox described it as a primarily peaceful rally with a few violent radicals. Their camera angles were virtually identical. They are showing the same scene but describing it very differently. And recently, on the one-year anniversary of this terrible event, Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson each downplayed how serious the attack was. They said the commission investigating the attack on the Capitol was purely political and a waste of money.

News outlets like Fox distort the news and cater to “conservatives” primarily for one reason: money. Conservatives watch because they like what they see and hear, ratings go up and the media outlet makes more money, regardless of the facts and the negative consequences to our democracy. Spend a little time and watch what the other side is watching. You will be amazed.
