I loved the article about Frank DeMiero (“’He dreamed out lod’: Remembering music educator Frank DeMiero,” The Herald, March 11).
I sang at Mountlake Terrace High from 1962-65 and Frank was there student teaching under Ed Aliverti during my senior year. Frank also took over the Sno-King Chorale from Ed some years later and the three of us did a little singing as “the three Italians” on some Sno-King Chorale shows.
Ed Aliverti was the guy who made choral music a big deal in the Edmonds School District, and Frank vastly expanded that legacy. It is a posthumous slap in the face to both of them that choral music has been eliminated by budget cuts. Apparently high school is now just a place to train coders. Very sad.
