A huge thank you and congratulations to the Snohomish County Council members for working together and unanimously passing a bipartisan 2018 budget with no tax increase while prioritizing public safety and funding the hiring of five new sheriff’s deputies.
The discussion and the process to get to the final package took time (they worked late into the night on Tuesday night) and focused on the people of Snohomish County. It is not easy to balance a budget with increased demands and service requests, but the council has delivered good leadership and are to be commended. As Snohomish County’s growth continues and it will soon be the second largest county in the state, it is refreshing to see our council members functioning not only to serve their constituents but to provide budget results without looking to the taxpayer as the first source of funding.
Lastly, I appreciate The Herald’s article detailing the budget process and their acknowledgement of our newly elected Councilman Nate Nehring who championed the no-new-tax version of the budget and who earned initial support from council members Sam Low and Stephanie Wright followed with intense negotiations and securing the votes of council members Brian Sullivan and Terry Ryan. This is great collaborative work.
While I would guess that many are not pleased with the 2018 budget, I urge you, the voters, to express your thanks to your council member and to get involved with the process.
