Less government, regulation but only when wealthy benefit?

I thought Republicans and Libertarians whole belief system was less government and less regulation. Yet they seem to have no problem telling the people what to do.

Isn’t it the same having the government tell you that you have to wear masks and get vaccinated or the state government telling the schools and companies that they can’t? Or having the states pass laws giving a list of rules on how or when to vote or the states just letting people vote how they want? After all, it is our constitutional right. Telling someone they can’t give food or water to someone standing in line, even if it was just a suggestion, on a good day is government interference.

Then there’s the deregulation belief system, which somehow only seems to benefit wealthy corporations; oil companies, banking industry, chemical industry, just to name a few. Deregulation only works if everyone is honest. The housing crash is a classic example. We have regulation for a reason. Our regulations were hard fought and hard won. It has little impact if a few people do something, but when millions or billions do it there are global consequences. “It’s only one straw,” said 8 billion people.

We have to change the way we think or we will be at an evolutionary dead end. I wonder what will rule the world after we’re gone? I’ve heard crows are really smart.
