A recent letter to the editor agreed with a recent decision by the Mukilteo School Board to muck around in a required reading list (“’White saviorhood’: Mukilteo schools end ‘Mockingbird’ requirement,” The Herald, Jan. 25). The writer favored pulling the book and further intimated others should be selected. I adamantly disagree.
It appears to me the board simply made a right turn. Now, they are the “Book Pullers” in the school district. I suggest they stay in their lane and address issues that don’t get in the wheelbarrow of censorship.
Young folks are capable of making decisions with respect to their reading material. Doing so is a learning process in and of itself.
They don’t require a board disguised as the self-appointed library police.
I am opposed to censorship of any kind but if the folks are looking to put their political correctness on stage, they should do so outside of the board agenda
