Trump refuses to wear a mask; has no respect for science

President Trump’s handling of this pandemic is a disaster, and most medical experts would agree with that. Why he can’t wear a mask and set an example for all Americans to do so is just not good medicine. Masks save lives.

Now it seems that wearing a mask is a political statement. Medical masks have been around for a long time; way before the pandemic. Everyone in the infectious disease wards in hospitals have been wearing masks for years and the same goes for the operating room. Masks are not 100 percent but they are the best thing we have to prevent the spread of covid. When a still contagious President Trump went into the White House after his recent hospital stay he should have been wearing a mask. But what does he do? Takes his mask off for another photo-op. By doing so he was exposing all the people who care for him in his residence to the virus.

It is obvious that President Trump has no knowledge of virology or immunology, but he has every medical expert at his disposal. He does not listen to the medical experts and usually does the exact opposite of what they say and then criticizes them in the process. It seems that our country is the only country in the world where politics and not medicine is dictating how we are handling this pandemic.

Trump states in his most current political rallies — where most people are not wearing masks and are crowded together — that we are rounding the corner on covid. Too many lives have been lost that could have been saved. Truly a sad state of affairs which needs to be corrected.
