Four AquaSox promoted to Double-A Arkansas

Montes, Arroyo, Perez and Beilenson all move up after helping Frogs clinch Series spot.

EVERETT — The Seattle Mariners announced Monday the promotion of four Everett AquaSox players to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers.

Right fielder Lazaro Montes, infielder Michael Arroyo and pitchers Marcelo Perez and Charlie Beilenson, fresh off helping the Frogs clinch the first half title and a berth in September’s Northwest League Championship Series, moved up after strong performances.

Montes, the Mariners’ second-ranked prospect behind AquaSox shortstop Colt Emerson, led the Northwest League with 18 homers and was hitting .268 at the time of promotion.

In 67 games this year, Montes registered 12 doubles, five triples, and 50 RBIs while slugging .572 and and recording a .959 OPS. The 20-year-old native of Havana, Cuba, tallied 26 total home runs and 83 RBIs during his stine with AquaSox, which began in June 2024.

Arroyo, the Mariners’ No. 7 prospect, hit .269 with the AquaSox this year, tallying 14 doubles, 15 homers, and 39 RBI. Arroyo, who joined the AquaSox on the same day as Montes on June 25, 2024, hit 27 homers, 29 doubles and drove in 79 runs during his time in Everett. Arroyo also became an Iron Man of sorts during this season, leading the Northwest League with 25 hit by pitches. The next closest player has 16.

The Seattle Mariners have announced that right-handed pitcher Marcelo Perez has been promoted from the Everett AquaSox to the Arkansas Travelers. Across eight starts with Everett this year, Perez started eight games for the Frogs this season, posting a 2.04 ERA and a 4-2 record. The right-hander struck out 34 batters and walked just five in 35 1/3 innings. Perez recorded WHIP of 0.93 this season, which was tops in the league among pitchers who started at least five games. He held opposing hitters to a .222 batting average.

Beilenson, a right-handed reliever, threw 34 innings with Everett, striking out 48 batters. A 5th-round selection in the 2024 MLB Draft out of Duke University, the 25-year-old went 2-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 20 appearances, tallying three saves. He was also the Mariners’ MiLB Reliever of the Month in May.

Curtis Washington Jr. promoted to Everett

Outfielder Curtis Washington Jr. has been promoted to Everett from Single-A Modesto. Washington, who played two games with the AquaSox in 2024, hit .308 this season for the Nuts. The 25-year-old right-handed hitter stole 22 bases for Modesto and was caught just twice. Washington was a 19th-round pick out of Purdue in 2022.

Colt Emerson earns Player of the Week Honors

AquaSox shortstop Colt Emerson has been named the Northwest Player of the Week. Last week, Emerson batted .529 with a .600 on base percentage and slugged 1.118. A first-round pick by the Mariners in 2023, Emerson hit two homers, drove in four runs and scored three times as the Frogs earned a spot in September’s Northwest League Championship Series.
