MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — As the Mountlake Terrace football team heads into Friday’s Class 3A Round of 32 playoff game against No. 3 Eastside Catholic, the Hawks will already have one award in hand.
The team was named a Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Team of the Month for October. The award recognizes one team from each sport in Washington for its “dedication in the classroom and service to the community.” according to the WIAA website.
In addition to going 6-3 so far this season to finish second in the Wesco 3A South, Terrace was selected, in part for exemplifying “spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. Each player has consistently supported one another, demonstrating respect for each other, their coaches, and the officials, as well as rival teams.” The team also participated in the 2024 Buddy Walk on Oct. 13 at Woodland Park Zoo, an event that supports the National Down Syndrome Society.
On the gridiron, Mountlake Terrace swept the Shoreline and Edmonds district teams for the first time in school history.
The Hawks play at Eastside Catholic 7 p.m. on Friday for a state playoff berth.
